Veterans High School Girls edged out Baldwin HS to win the Championship Trophy by 1 point...92 - 91. It came all the way down to the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay.. Where local school Veterans, won the title, by racing to 2nd place, overtaking Baldwin out of Milledgeville, who finished 4th.
Amira Askew of Veterans, had a big day sweeping the 100m (12.52), 200m (25.77), anchoring the 4x100 squad to Gold in 49.92 and ran a leg on that 4x400 squad to help pass Baldwin for the team title. Shianne Sipsey was also key, winning the 400m in 58.06 and running legs on the 4x100 and 4x400 (anchor leg) squads. Mackenzie Walls came up big in the distance races. She won the 1600m race going 5:24, and pushed Jones County XC star Erin Leonard (11:26) to the wire in the 3200m posting a 11:27.
The High Point Winner on the girls side was Baldwin state hopeful Brittany Trawick with 30 points. Trawick led Baldwin by sweeping the horizontal jumps, going 18-7 in the LJ, 36-6.50 in the TJ and took 2nd in the 100m . Chastity Pickett from Westover (Albany) earned a MileSplitElite performance in the 300h going 46.43.
Devin Hart pitched in taking the 100m posting a 11.18 and running legs on the Trojan's Gold medal relay squads 4x100 (42.03) and 4x400 (3:32.02). Thomson High's Marcus Cade had an eilte mark in the LJ leaping out to 23-04 and Kadari Mitchell of New Hampstead bounded to 45-8 also earning a MileSplit elite mark.
In addition to the high level of completion on the track, there were 2 scholarships given out to a male and female, that have demonstrated what it means to be a student-athlete. Destiny Green, of New Hampstead and Noah Howard of Southwest Macon, High School each won a $100 scholarship, in part by Chick-Fil-A & Apparel Authority.
Also, several state champion alumni of the Central Ga Relays came back to support this great event, including: Zykerria Williams, Adriunna Brown, Tamdra Lawrence, Zoe Jordan, Annasterasia Terrell, Desiree Blunt, and Jatavious Harris. The presence of Milesplit Ga also helped make the atmosphere of this meet a Championship one, even with the state basketball championships being played across town in Macon.
