A Brief Look at the 5th Annual Central GA Relays

The Central Ga Relays began in 2013 at Thompson Stadium in Macon Ga, which was home to the Northeast Raiders and legendary track Coach Alvin Copeland (who won 9 state track & field titles).  The meet was initially named the Canes Early Bird Invitational and changed to include ALL of Central Ga in 2014.  This meet was started by Coach Ragin at Rutland High School, with the intent to help bring more college exposure to kids from the middle & south Georgia market that go under recruited with scholarships to college.  Last year there were over 10 colleges that attended The Central Ga Relays to recruit kids. Many said it was a good centralized meet (outside of metro Atlanta) that had hundreds of talented kids they could recruit.  The 2015 & 2016 meets were special because the class 1A, 3A, 4A state champions and runners up on the girls side competed against each other in the 4x100, 400, 100, 200, long jump, and 4x400 relays.  With Deloria Boone, Tamdra Lawrence, Adriunna Brown, Tyler Ragin, Jahari Williams, Amecia Pennemon, and Desiree Blunt gracing the track at Thompson Stadium many young people have benefited from the great competition.
