Region 6-AAAAA Meet Preview

Boys
With 3 teams ranked in the top-10 of AAAAA this should be one of the strongest and deepest region meets in the state. The team battle will be a close one as perennial power Walton (5th-AAAAA) looks to defend it’s region title from strong teams of Lassiter (7th-AAAAA) and Milton (10th-AAAAA). The battle for the last team qualifying spot should be a 3-way battle between Kell, Centennial and Roswell and should be very close. Individually a 3-way battle should ensue with Milton’s Tyler Tomy (Coach Wood Varsity winner, Fulton County runner-up) pitted against Alpharetta’s Blake Kennedy (Fulton County Champion & Coach Wood Varsity runner-up) and Lassiter’s Austen Gutierrez (3rd at Cobb County Champs).

Girls
Can Alpharetta (4th-AAAAA) unseat Region power-house Walton (9th-AAAAA)?? That is the question. Again, with 3 teams ranked in the top-10 in AAAAA it should be a very strong and deep region race. The Alpharetta Raiders have been ranked in the top-5 all season long and the Fulton County champions should carry that momentum to Carrollton. The Lady Raiders of Walton also need to worry about Roswell (7th-AAAAA) as the Hornets also look for a second consecutive trip to Carrollton. But the last qualifying spot, again, like the boys race will be battle with Milton & Centennial as the two teams have faced each other 4 times this season and each getting 2 victories. A tie-breaking 6th runner is not out of the question to decide who will go to the state meet. The battle up front will include Katie June of Centennial, the duo of Dylan Hassett & Jessica Borchert of Alpharetta and Walton’s Kylie Womack, Ally Smith & Caroline Sullivan.

The meet gets underway at 2:30pm on Thursday, Oct 30th at the Corps of Engineers Property in Acworth, GA with the boy’s varsity race with the girl’s to follow at 3:15pm.
