A Private- Sam Shaylor took the early lead and a pack of 4 established themselves early in contact, including Max Heaberlin of Paideia and Mark 'Franken' Stein of Hebron Christian. It was a fast first lap as Shaylor split a 1:04 with Heaberlin stalking him a stride back the next 2 laps with Stein biding his time just a few meters back. The 800 was split at 2:13, as the runners settled in, as it was a 3 man race at this point. Pierce Erhardt of Mt. Pisgah was in the mix for 2 laps, but dropped at the 800m as Tunji Afolabi-Brown of Mount De Sales joined the lead pack for 100m before falling back as well. Things held pat at the gun lap (3:22) until the 300m to go, when Mark Stein received a jolt from his electrodes telling him to charge, as he passed Shaylor and Heaberlin, who did try hard to respond though falling back a few strides. Heaberlin pressed very hard trying to respond with 150 left, passing Shaylor, but Shaylor's mileage factored in, as he responded making 1 last effort to catch Stein the final 100m. However, the gritty Stein held Shaylor off until the finish line winning by a couple meters in 4:25.60. Shaylor posted a 4:25.84 with Heaberlin 5m back at 4:26.92.
