McEachern Rolls Saturday Enroute to 6A Title

Makenzie Dunmore edges Sterling Lester to win the 400 Meters.

McEachern's Girls powered away on Saturday, breaking Westlake's string of 3 straight titles by scoring 52 points on Saturday. The Lady Indians began the day with 17 Field Event points, but capitalized heavily on the track Saturday to pull away from the field. Picking up 16 points in the TJ were Victoria Agyin taking 2nd at 39-3 and Royce Johnson 3rd at 39-2. In the 4x100 relay they were just held off a fast closing Westlake squad winning in 46.03. National standout Makenzie Dunmore didn't run her best time in the 400m, but her strategy worked as she held off frosh upstart Sterling Lester from Marietta to take the Gold in 53.01 and Tamiya Roberts chipped in a point going 8th.

It would be a few events before they struck again, but in the 200m Dunmore was again on her game clocking a 23.82 holding off another freshman sensation (Tia Jones of Walton at 23.92) In the 300h Nilaja Florence kicked in 5 points taking 4th at 44.18. What made the difference though, was the 4x400 relay, where the Lady Indians rang up 15 points closing the deal taking 1st at 3:44.87 and 4th at 3:50.63

Westlake gave it their best shot at 4 straight, but was a stong 2nd at 56 points. Kennedy Simon had a great meet winning the LJ with a mark of 19-2.25 and Jada Watson won the HJ (in a classic jump off) with a bar of 5-6. The Lions began their Saturday taking 2nd in the 4x100 at 46.03, Simon placed 3rd in the 400m at 53.51, and Jenee Nichols took 5th in the 100 and 200m finals. Kennedy Simon continued to put pressure on McEachern as she ran to 3rd in the 300h at 44.14 and the 4x400 squad closed out the day taking 3rd in 3:48.65 

Brookwood began Saturday with 21 points. Brianna Isles produced 15 of those, taking Gold in the TJ with a mark of 40-0.25 and 4th in the LJ. The Broncos chipped away on Saturday in many events ending up 3rd Overall with 42 points led by: Caitlan Tate's 2nd in the 100m dash at 11.87, Makenzie Ellison's 5th in the 800m and a pair of 5ths by their relay squads.  

Dacula was monsterous on the Field Friday racking up all 39 of their points! Sweeping the top 2 spots in the Pole Vault were Rachel Sherrill taking Gold in 11-6 and Hannah Jefcoat 2nd at 11-0. Chelsea Igberaese rang up 16 points in the THrows, winning the Discus at 142-0 and took 3rd in the Shot at 42-0. Sister?..Elsie Igberaese also added 5 points in the Discus. Very competitive teamwise were Tucker in 5th- 38, Campbell 6th-36 and Walton 7th-33.50.
