Starr’s Mill Friday Night Lights Preview – April 1, 2016


The Men Events- Sprint power houses- Carrollton, Sandy Creek, Fayette look to battle it out with distance strong Marist, Whitewater, Alexander, Starr's Mill and McIntosh. Depth in the field events will decide who the top teams are.

Sprint Events and Relays 100m - 6 athletes have run 10.9's: Shaquawn Vandergrift from Moody, AL comes in with a 10.90, with Javan Hawes of Sandy Creek and Niesheem Thomas of Carrollton both at 10.93 and Keegan Hill or Carrollton at 10.94 200m -- 7 athletes have run 22.5 or faster: Niesheem Thomas of Carrollton posts the fastest time at 22.10, with Seth Holloway of Fayette and Ian Alce of Newnan at 22.23.

400m- 2 athletes under 50 - Collins Livinus from Sandy Creek at 49.12 & Cortney Brown from Carrollton at 29.23

4x100- 5 teams have run in the 42s: Carrollton, Sandy Creek, Fayette, East Coweta and Paulding will battle for #1

4x400: 5 teams have run 3:22 to 3:26 with Fayette, Carrollton and Newnan look to battle for #1 slot

Distance Events

800m -- brings 5 guys under 2 minutes including leader Brian Faust of Marist at 1.55.78, followed by Trevin Quander of Chapel Hill at 1.56.85 and Tyler Whorton of Alexander at 1.57.62

1600m- Frank Pittman is sitting this meet out and others opting for the 3200m, leaving the 1600m wide open for 4 athletes in the upper 4:20s: Andrew Tuttle of Northgate, Nick Nyman of Starr's Mill, Wilson Moore of Chapel Hill

3200m- 9 athletes are sub 10 minutes with 11 more under 10:30. Nick Nyman of Starr's Mill battles the Whitewater trio of Don Harp, Harry Harp & Parker Nail and Marist trio of Leif Anderson, Quinn Burden & David Reteneller.

Hurdles

110m H has 2 athletes in the 14's: Michael Jones from Sandy Creek at 14.26 and Ahmad Gray of Paulding at 14.85

300m H has 3 athletes under 41 s: Michael Jones from Sandy Creek at 39.25 and Jahen Ridges of Fayette, Christian Scanton of East Coweta at 40.27

Horizontal Jumps

Long Jump- 7 athletes at 21+ feet: Daniel Bowen of Alexander and Caeian Filmore of Fayette both at 22-1

Triple Jump- 4 athletes at 43+ feet: Brandon McDowell of McIntosh at 43-7 and Anthony Davis of Starr's Mill at 43-7 followed closely by Kyndall Burts of Douglas at 43-3 and Grant Walker from Our Lady of Mercy at 43-0

Vertical Jumps

High Jump- 9 jumpers at 6 feet or higher. Amari Strickland of East Coweta, Javarrian Mitchell of Paulding, Khalyl Water of Douglas, and Tate Traylor of Carrollton have all jump 6-2 this season.

Pole Vault- 3 at 13-6 to 14 feet: The Runyan brothers from Starr's Mill -- Older brother Michael has cleared 14' while younger brother, Ben is at 13' 6"; Joe Street of Carrollton at 13'6" looks to topple the two brothers.

Throwing Events

Shot Put has 4 throwers at over 50- State Champion Ryan Spiecha of Starr's Mill leads all with a throw of 55-5, followed by Madias Loper of Whitewater at 53-2.5, Jeremiah Russell from Newnan and Hunter Griffin of Whitewater.

Discus has 4 throwers over 150 feet: Jeremiah Pierce of Carrolton at 162-1, Madias Loper of Whitewater at 160-4, Cullen Alexander at 159-2 and Drew Lathan of Northgate at 153-8 

The Women's Events-  Sprint power houses- Chapel Hill, Alexander, and Fayette look to battle it out with distance strong Marist, McIntosh, and, Starr's Mill and McIntosh. Starr's Mill, Fayette and Marist field event depth will look to add points in the team score.

100m -- 2 athletes stand out Garielle Netter from Maynard Jackson at 11.81, follow by Vivette Green of Alexander

200m- 7 athletes under 26s with Angel Amadi leading from Chapel Hill at 24.80, follow by Vivette Green of Alexander

400m- 4 athletes under 59 with Kendria Edouard of Chapel Hill posting a time of 57.07, followed by Tenae Grigsby of Starr's Mill at 58.01, Gabby Bowen of Marist at 58.43, and Allyah Sangster of Chapel Hill at 58.89

4x100: Chapel Hill dominates at 46.68, followed by Sandy Creek, Fayette, East Coweta, Alexander, and Marist in the 49s

4x400: East Coweta lead a field with 4:04 followed by Fayette, Douglas Co, and Alexander in 4:06 -4:07

Distance Races-

800m Brenda Ayuk of Alexander leads at 2:20.33, Iyanna Dandrea of Douglas at 2.21.17 and Kendria Edouard of Chapel Hill and Marist duo of Caroline Dietrich and Kathleen Maley.

1600m- is loaded with 6 athletes under 5:20: 5A list leader Alyssa LeClaire of McIntosh has run 5:02.1 this year, giving chase is Josie Wirtz of Marist- 5.11.63, followed by talented group of Kendall Nelson of Marist- 5.17.1, Sophie Handel-5:20.9, Nicole Zaubi of McIntosh- split 5:20 in a relay and Elise Glorvigen of Northgate in 5:20

3200m- 5 athletes under 12:00. Alyssa Hooker of Lakeside Evans has run 11.38.37 this year, chasing her will be the duo from Starr's Mill Mary Valli 11.39 and Sophie Handel 11.45; and Elise Glorvigen and Rachel Ward of McIntosh 11:55

Hurdles

100mH- There are 3 athletes in the 14's: Kayla Alexander from Chapel Hill leads at 14.05, followed by Alexis Farley of Starr's Mill at 14.49 and Jahelle Cato of Douglas Co on her heals at 14.77

300m H- has 3 athletes 45 seconds or faster: Tamira Gitonga of Marist leads at 43.86 with Areale Frazier of Sprayberry coming at 44.33 and Alexis Willis of sandy Creek post a time of 45.45

Horizontal Jumps

Long Jump-1 athletes over 19' with 3 over 18': Starr's Mill's Alexis Farley brings the best jump in at 19-8 with Fayette duo of Nailah Moore, 18-7 and Jessica Watkins at 18-10, followed by Kennedy Davis from Sandy Creek at 18-1.5

Triple Jump- 2 athlete at 39 and 3 over 36': Starr's Mill Alexis Farley has a stand out jump of 39' 8 ½". Followed closely by Nailah Moore of Fayette in 39-0 and Onyinye Chukka of Douglas Co at 37-9.

Vertical Jumps

High Jump- 1 jumper at 5'6" and 5 more at 5'. Starr's Mill Maddie Hammond leads the field with a 5'6" jump this year. Alona Glenn- East Coweta, Kierra Thomas-Maynard Jackson, Ashton Coats- Alexander, Andrea Lasseigne-Bremen and Mikayla Williams-Douglas all at 5 feet

Pole Vault- An outstanding event with 7 vaulters 10' or higher. Becky Arbiv of the Weber School leads with 13-3.5, followed by Bremen High's duo of Kaylee Riley 12-2, and Katie Hannegan at 11-0. Sister Ariel Arbiv of Weber at 10-10 and Starr's Mill's Abi Dickinson at 10-8 add excitement to this high flying group of vaulters.

Throwing Events

Shot Put has 4 throwers over 36 feet. - Camilla Sims from Maynard Jackson comes in as the leader at 37-11, followed by Nya Moses of Sprayberry at 37-9 and Starr's Mill's Shelby Myers at 37-7.5

Discus- 6 throws over 110 feet- Kamryn Brinson of Marist, 126-7 is the leader with Airian Riddick of Druid Hills at 117-3
