Is Everyone Ready for Some Outdoor Track and Field?

Runners work out today up in Kentucky at Assumption HS Track.

The 2016 GHSA Outdoor season officially began on a cold Monday, and as I drove through several snow flurries in Athens late Tuesday afternoon, it's getting off to a frigid start. There were a few 'Time Trials', Phil Logan timed the Parkview trials last Friday. There is a dual meet scheduled today at Mill Creek (who has been known to time in frigid weather) But, with the Brookwood meet cancelled for Wednesday and South Forsyth cancelling Thursday, it seems the first meet of the season will be a dual at North Gwinnett on Thursday. El Nino is projected to cause wetter/colder weather than in many years (1997) and look for the going to be rough the first few weeks of practice and meets. I do know Paideia has been out there nearly every day running since practice officially began.

Ga.MileSplit will be onsite at a 'Feature Meet' each Saturday beginning with the 'Big Peach Distance Kickoff' at Parkview which 22 schools are signed up for. We will be shooting video for sure at Jerry Arnold and the Coaches Invitational. This season watch for athletes of the week being named for each class beginning after the 2/20 weekend. Also weekly updates of lists of the top athletes in each event. Middle School listings will begin after the weekend of 3/5.

What Ga.MileSplit.com would like to ask of all weekend Invitationals and some of the larger 'Friday Night Lights' meets, is for you to make several courtesy pa announcements letting all the fans in attendance and athletes where to go after the meet is completed to view results. Also, send in a meet recap, have someone take a few pics of the highlights (surely some of the larger schools have media clubs) and submit them in e-mail to us. This will bring more attention to your meet and the athletes who had top times/marks achieved. Remember, there is plenty of content that is still free on ga.milesplit.com and anyone can view meet results. Let's just hope it begins to thaw out sooner than projected this Spring. Good luck to everyone and good competition!
