Day 2 AM Session Recap: 10 Americans, Khalifa St. Fort Advance

Sammy Watson ran the fastest qualifying time in the 800m of 2:06.05

Sammy Watson (NY) took the 800m by storm running the fastest qualifying time of the four preliminary heats in 2:06.05. In the 1500m, Julia Heymach (TX) placed 6th in the 2nd of two preliminary heats with a PR 4:21.91 to qualify to the finals by time.

In the hurdles, all the Americans advanced to the next round. On the girls side Sydney McLaughlin (NJ) and Brandeé Johnson (VA) ran the 400m hurdle semi finals finishing with the top two times of 56.79 and 58.51 respectively.

Isaiah Lucas wins his 110m Hurdles heat in 13.44, tying the World Youth leading time

In the 110m hurdles the Texas duo Norman Grimes and Isaiah Lucas advanced led by Lucas, who tied the World Youth leading time of 13.44.

In the 100m both Candace Hill (GA) and Jayla Kirkland (AL) qualified to the semi-final round running 11.47 and 11.76 respectively. Floridan Khalifa St. Fort, running for Trinidad And Tobago, also qualified with her 11.39, tying the best time of the day.


Bobby Colantonio Jr. in the Hammer Throw pit before nearly hitting 240' to qualify for finals

In the throwing events, Sophia Rivera (MO) placed third and auto qualified after her second attempt with a throw of 16.51m (54-2). Later tonight Rivera will become the first athlete in IAAF history to compete in two simultaneous field event finals as she goes for gold in both the javelin and shot put. In the men's hammer throw, Bobby Colantonio (RI) threw 72.69m (238-5.75) on attempt two to auto qualify out of Group A.


George Patrick tosses the discus in the decathlon

George Patrick (TN), the only competitor for Team USA in the decathlon, sits in third after eight events with 6425 points. He placed 4th in Heat 3 of the 110m hurdles running 13.99, and 8th overall in the discus with his PR of 41.81m (137-2). In pole vault he cleared 4.20m (13-9.25) to score 673 points.
