WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kennesaw State earned its fourth-straight Atlantic Sun Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship as the Owls racked up 218 points behind 10 event wins and 25 all-conference performances. This is the sixth indoor championship the team has won, which is the most all-time in the conference.
"I know I talk all the time about how hard our kids work, but that's what is really comes down to," director of track and field and cross country
Andy Eggerth said. "We've all been dealt a certain amount of talent, but our work ethic is one of the few things that we have control over. As a whole, our guys really do work to fulfill their potential on a regular basis in training and the results speak for themselves. I'm so pleased that they are able to enjoy an undefeated year capped off with a championship in dominating fashion."
Andre Dorsey led the way again as he earned the A-Sun Championship Most Valuable Performer honors for the third-straight year registering 30 points in the two-day meet, He collected wins in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump. The Owls won eight events and scored 152 total points on the final day of the meet in route to the championship.
Junior
Bilal Abdullah, won the heptathlon with a conference indoor championship record of 5,600 points. Abdullah collected a win in the 60m hurdles in the with a time of 8.04. With his performance in the heptathlon, Abdullah will join Dorsey in competing in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13. Fellow Owl,
Joshua Mulder finished second in the pentathlon with 5, 265 points. He collected a win the pole vault event of the heptathlon with a vault of 4.45m (14'7.25).
Kaarel Mangusson finished third with 4945 points in the event.
In the field events,
Martynas Sedys set a school and conference record in the weight throw with a toss of 19.88m (65'2.75) to win the event.
Matthew Morris collected a win in the pole vault with a winning vault of 4.61m (15'1.50") while teammate
Hunter Arnold finished second with a vault of 4.46m (14'7.50'). Including Dorsey's win in the high jump and KSU earning all the heptathlon points, the Owls scored a total of 96 points in the field events on Sunday.
On the track, the Owls collected 70 points Sunday. In the first running event of the afternoon,
Terrell Singleton finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.02.
Zac Davis won his second straight indoor 400m championship finishing the race in 49.52.
The speed would really come on display in the 60m dash as sophomore
Drew Duggans won the event with a conference and school record time of 6.66. Duggan's run in the 60m is good enough for 23rd best in the country. Senior
Rasmus Rooks grabbed third place in the 60m with a time of 7.00 in his final indoor championship.
Despite being under the weather all week, freshman
Taylor Huntley would collect six points and third place finish with a big push in the final 60m of the 800m finishing in 1:56.05.
KSU won 22 points in the 200m dash. Duggans won his second gold medal with a school record time of 21.36. Abdullah was second finishing just behind Duggans in 22.01.
In the final men's event of the day, the 4x400m relay team of Huntley, Mulder, Davis and Abdullah would set a new school record with a time of 3:18.01 to win the event and close out the meet.
The Owls will now turn their focus and start preparing for their outdoor season that starts on March 27 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.
