Brennan Garriques of Creekview placed 2nd in 15:58

                                                                                                                   Boys Varsity

The day started off with the varsity boys’ race in which Logan Poteet showed his dominance when he  pulled away from the field at the 800m mark and ran solo to the finish in a time of 15:28. Behind him was a battle for second between Creekview Brennan Garriques and River Ridge’s Ahmed Jama. The two ran fairly close for the first two miles with Jama quickening his pace after the second mile to overcome Garriques who hung close enough to out kick the River Ridge standout the last 100m and finish in 15:58 to Jama’s 16:00. Riverwood’s Owen McDaniel and Cass’s Jaison Morning each earned a solo trip to Carrolton next week by placing 4th and 6th respectively while Cambridge’s 114 point 3rd place team finish was led by junior Bjorn Leicher’s 5th place performance. Forsyth Central proved it is still a top contender for the AAAAA state title with their impressive 1st place performance placing all five scorers in the top 15 for a team score of 46 points. They were led by a tight 7, 8, 9 finish from Max Warner, Austin Campbell, and Will Hasse. Behind the Bulldogs was Creekview who placed all 7 runners in the top 22 and scored 68 points. Aided by senior Nathan Trottier’s 14th place River Ridge scored 117 to place 4th and finish just ahead of Dalton’s 124. Despite not qualifying for State with his 11th place finish Dalton’s Adan Rodriquez deserves some recognition as being the fastest freshman in the race and one of the fastest in the state, unfortunately we won’t get to see him race at the State meet this year.

Many names popped up as potential challengers for the Region title, but Riverwood’s Elizabeth Graves bested them all today with her 18:35 finish. Here teammate, Anna Haden finished 6th to help the Riverwood squad finish 3rd with 115 points. A trio from Kell lead by Reagan Poteet, tried to chase down the leader, but neither she nor her teammates Olivia Terwilliger or Marielle Lewis could close the gap Graves began to create near the second mile. They still placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively and helped Kell place 4th with 135 points, good enough to make an appearance at State on Nov 8th. Taking 5th place individually was Creekview’s Lauren Wallin who finished in 19:36. She was closely followed by team mates Rachel Boulineau and Annie Conrad whose 7 - 8 finish helped to solidify the first Region title for the Lady Grizzlies XC program. The Grizzles 4th and 5th place runners Kennedy Cater and Dara Staton both finished in the top 20 to cap Creekview’s 56 points which bested 2nd place Cambridge’s 86 points. The Bears were led by freshman Chloe Paskins, Chloe Phelps and Senior Caroline Willis who all finished in the top 20.
