Boys-The top teams this year include Peachtree Ridge led by the legendary coach emeritus Ron Clanton. The Lions will be challenged by Woodward Academy from 4A led by their outstanding coach Tim Hamlin. South Forsyth boys as well as North Hall also look to be contenders for the title. A dark horse for this year’s race could be East Jackson coached by hall of famer Tomy Sitton. Sitton has put East Jackson on the map and their guys look like strong contenders for a state championship run this year.

The individual race is shaping up to be a duel between Reilly Friedman from Gallaway and Christian Bowles from Lakeside, Evans. These two both have PR’s that are sub 15:20 and with a fast track look to push the 15 minute barrier. They will be challenged by Chase Kennedy of East Jackson, Hakeem Mustaffa of Shaw, Quitin Miles of North Hall, Alex Murfee of Woodward Academy, Spencer Fields of Darlington and Sam Bowie of Lagrange.

Girls-This could be a great race between two of this year’s best teams in any classification. South Forsyth of 6A are both poised to take the title. It should come down to each teams’ 5th runner. McIntosh, Westminster, Pope and Darlington will be waiting in the wings if South Forsyth were to slip up.

The girls’ individual field features eleven girls that have gone under the 19 minute barrier this year. This year’s race looks to be an epic duel between two of the state’s finest. Emma Grace Hurley and Savannah Carnahan have both run under 17:40 this year. These two will be pushed by Jenna Gearing of White County, Kathryn Foreman and Nicole Fegans of Landmark as well as a slew of girls with PR’s ranging from 18:30 to the low 19’s.

On a side note meet management has measured the course using a wheel, GPS watch, Nike run app, and a rangefinder. We have measured it on three separate occasions in the last few weeks and will measure it again before the final course is put down.  It is measure on the tangents just like the GHSA rule book states. There will be 400, 800, 1 mile, 2 mile, 800 to go and 400 to go markings on the course.
