Longtime USATF GA Board Member / Official, Murray Sanford Passes Away

USATF Georgia Association Mourns Today...
Dear Members,
We are sad to inform you of the loss of someone who was a valued, vital member of our organization.  Murray Sanford, former Georgia Association President, Officials Chair, USATF Officials Hall of Fame Inductee, former Atlanta Track Club President, school teacher, coach, and beloved friend, succumbed earlier today at Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, GA, from an extended illness.
Murray was a gentle man who cared about our sport, our young athletes and our association.  He was the first person to arrive at a meet and the last person to leave. He taught many of us how to officiate and how to be good stewards of this sport. He will be missed by all.

This is sad news for both my family and the Georgia running community. Murray taught many of us lots of things over the years; I always enjoyed working meets at UGA and Georgia Tech with him. I will never forget talking track and life with him many times, while sitting on a bench at the Ga. Tech finish line, after a long day of officiating; while enjoying good conversation and a setting sun over the Atlanta Sky line. Murray you are missed, Tim Cummings, Athens Christian.

This is a really big loss for track in Georgia. I first met Murray several years ago when he started the DeKalb International Prep Classic and always found him to be very enthusiastic and supportive of the sport. In my brief encounters with him, I also found him to be very genuine and sincere. Everything he did was greatly appreciated.
