Small School Boys
Jonathan Jenkins of the Newroc Rockets, comes from a very successful running family and has been competing in club track (USATF/AAU) for several years, and his strength and race experience was a lethal combination as he literally left it all on the course, torching a very competitive Small School field, with the best performance of the day (nearly collasping meters after the finish line) clocking a 11:04. Padeia ace, Griffin McCauley hung tough placing a strong 2nd behind Jenkins in 11:37 besting Knox Pittman of St.Martin's Episcopal at 11:51 Jonathan Schulz of Newroc had a nice race placing 4th overall posting a 11:53. Also going sub 12 were in order: Sohail Gnatneker (unattached) placing 5th in 11:55, from Woodward Academy, Andrew Murfee in 11:59 and Blecley's own, Luke Teston of Bleckley MS, ignited the home crowd placing 8th in 12:04
Holy Innocents won the team title without placing putting a boy in the top 10 scoring 111 points. Leading the Golden Bears state title effort was 7th grader Kent Malcom's 23rd overall. ACS scored the runnerup hardware with 137 points behind the efforts of Will Gilbert and Orlando Stephenson. Woodward Academy placed 3rd edging Hart County while Jack Douglass led Pace to 5th clocking a 12:00.
Small School Girls
Anna Marion Block (far right) of Athens Academy was undefeated this Fall and kept her string intact down in Cochran, pushing herself to new limits crossing the finish winning the Small School Girls title convincingly, posting the top performance of the day in 12:13. Sophia West of Paideia was the only athlete within hailng distance of Block placing 2nd in 12:47 Sarah Foreman of Landmark Christian (who primarly ran JV 5ks this season) was 60 meters back posting a 13:00. Delaney Graham ran unattached placing 4th overall in 13:01 followed by Westminster girl Victoria Flowers (sister of boys state champ Jordan Flowers) at 13:05 nosing out Landmark Christian's Mary Kellison Thorne (13:06)
Decatur, pulled off a mild upset, defeating several well established, powerful MS girls programs prompting a quick results review.. (Renfroe MS feeds into Decatur HS) Leading (Renfroe MS) to the the Girls MS Small School State title was Maggie Carlton in 13:07 (7th) and runningmate Annie Ballou 9th (13:11) Lovett was team runnerups 3 points back. Lovett was led by 7th grader Haley Hooper's 10th place finish. Holy Innocents has a huge program (and is a former MS state champ) taking 3rd besting ACS led by Bryn Foster placing 13th. ACS didn't leave empty handed with a 4th place trophy sparked by 1st year runner Tanner Guest's 8th overall in 13:10
Holy Innocents topped ACS by 27 points taking home yet another 'Small School Top Program" award.
