The season got off to a hot start as Bret McDaniel and Matt Clay posted impressive wins at the Early Bird meet. Clay\'s 15:57 was 16 seconds faster than Joseph Hackney of Kell and helped Alexander to a strong 2nd place finish behind North Gwinnett. North Gwinnett posted a 17:11 team average for their top 5 as their number four and five runners were the difference in the meet. Alexander posted a 17:14 team average to finish just 7 points ahead of Our Lady of Mercy with a 17:18 team average.
On the girls side, Brookwood followed the path laid out by Roxanne Demarco to post a big win over county rival North Gwinnett and posted a 20;29 team average. Placing their top 5 in the top 23, Brookwood finished well ahead of North Gwinnett and 3rd place Riverwood. Overall individual winner Bret McDaniel of Riverwood posted an impressive 19:20 time to finish 9 seconds ahead of Demarco. Sabrina Jeppson, of Lakeside, and Nicole Demurcurio, of North Gwinnett also cracked the 20 minute barrier in their first races of the season.
