Fast times are bound to happen this year with an incredible field of distance girls.  Leading the pack is Stephanie Kurgatt of McClay School who just signed with Georgetown.  Stephanie comes in with a PR of 10:39 and a 1600 PR of 4:40.  Last year at Coaches Invitational she won the 1600 in a time of 4:49.   She is the current 1A Florida State Champion in the 1600 and 800.  Annie Kelly of Milton with a PR of 10:53 will be giving Kurgatt a run.  Annie just signed a letter of intent to run collegiately at the University of Mississippi.  She also placed 2nd at the GHSA AAAAAA State XC Championships last fall.  On their heels will be Rachel Thorne, Alpharetta with a PR of 10:54.  Katherine Yost, NORC who will be Annie’s teammate at Mississippi has a PR of 10:58.  Katherine placed 3rd at the GHSA AAAAA State XC Championships in 2012.  We can’t forget another powerhouse, Grace Tinkey.  She is back and in full force on the track in 2013.  She has a PR of 11:00 and just committed to run at Air Force.  Grace is a 2X Footlocker National Finalist and 2010 & 2011 Gatorade XC Runner of the Year.  She is also a State Champ in the 1600 and 3200.  This lead pack is going to be pushed by several other top runners: Mackenzie Nail of Whitewater, Morgan Ilse of Marist – 2012 GHSA State AAAA XC Championsip, Alex Cameron, Dunwoody, State XC Champion of AAAAA and Emma Garner of Opelika – all of whom have PR’s of low 11’s for the 3200.

Distance Relays
There is nothing like the annual Friday night 4X16 for great completion at Georgia Tech.
Marist,  AAAA 2012 State XC Champions, Walton, 2012 State AAAAAA XC Runner-up  and Brookwood 2012 XC 3rd should all contend while Milton will be in the mix as they have run the fastest 4X16 in Georgia this season.  Don’t count out JL Mann as they have run some fast 4 X8 times year and could contend.

Sprint Relays
Hopefully some of the Georgia teams such as North Springs or Collins Hill can  be in the mix with the teams of Auburn, JL Mann and Opelika in the sprint relays.  JL Mann boasts the best time in South Carolina while Auburn, currently ranked 1st in Alabama and Opelika will force all the spring relays to be at their best.

The next best mark to Nalls is an impressive 46’5” which allowed OLA’s Joseph Spann to finish 4th in the GHSA State Meet in 2012.  Spann was also here on this track in 2012 at the Coaches Invitational as a 110 High Hurdler.

We are also proud to have Pope’s very own Braxton Phipps who owns a personal best of 43’ 9 ½”, and has multiple jumps over 43’.  Phipps is also returning to the Coaches Invitational from a solid showing here in 2012.

The rest of the field is packed very tightly which should make for some great competition.  Many of the jumpers have gone 42’ and 43’ in near freezing weather this season.  With the temperature looking like it could be the warmest of the season, all of these athletes are looking for PR’s and it could be anyone’s day.
